About Hotel
, [Kish island], [Iran] Manor House Hotel at Castle Combe, [Wiltshire, England]. Built in the fourteenth century, the hotel has 48 rooms and 365 acres (1.5 km²) of gardens. rating and over 2,000 rooms each.A hotel is an establishment that provides paid [lodging], usually on a short-term basis. Hotels often provide a number of additional guest services such as a [restaurant], a [swimming pool] or [childcare]. Some hotels have [business conference] services and [conference room] and encourage groups to hold [Convention (meeting)]s and [meeting]s at their location.
In [Australia], the word may also refer to a [Public house] or [Bar (establishment)].
In [India], the word may also refer to a [restaurant] since the best restaurants were always situated next to a good hotel.
Origins of the term
, [New York] which has preserved its 1890s exterior and interior
The word hotel derives from the [French language] hôtel, which referred to a French version of a [townhouse] or any other building seeing frequent visitors, not a place offering accommodation (in contemporary usage, hôtel has the meaning of "hotel", and [hôtel particulier] is used for the old meaning). The French spelling (with the [circumflex]) was once also used in English, but is now rare. The circumflex replaces the 's' once preceding the 't' in the earlier [hostel] spelling, which over time received a new, but closely related meaning.
Services and facilities
chain in the U.S.Basic accommodation of a room with only a [bed (furniture)], a cupboard, a small table and a washstand has largely been replaced by rooms with [en-suite] [bathroom]s and, more commonly in the [United States] than elsewhere, climate control. Other features found may be a [telephone], an [alarm clock], a [television], and [broadband] [Internet] connectivity. Food and drink may be supplied by a [mini-bar] (which often includes a small [refrigerator]) containing [snack]s and [drink]s (to be paid for on departure), and [tea] and [coffee] making facilities (cups, [spoon]s, an electric [kettle] and sachets containing [instant coffee], [tea bag]s, [sugar], and [cream]er or [milk]).
Some hotels offer various combinations of meals as part of a room and board arrangement. These are often [advertised] as:{] the [capsule hotel] supplies minimal facilities and room space.
Classification
The cost and quality of hotels are usually indicative of the range and type of services available. Due to the enormous increase in [tourism] worldwide during the last decades of the 20th century, standards, especially those of smaller establishments, have improved considerably. For the sake of greater comparability, rating systems have been introduced, with the [star (classification)] classification being most common.
Boutique hotels
"[Boutique Hotel]" is a term originating in [North America] to describe intimate, usually luxurious or quirky hotel environments. Boutique hotels differentiate themselves from larger chain or branded hotels by providing an exceptional and personalized level of accommodation, services and facilities. Because of their financial successes in the most recent past, there have been attempts to create chains have adopted the "boutique" look and feel. In the US this trend was started by the "W" hotel chain in the 1990s and most recently this trend can be observed in chains as "aloft", "NYLO","Hyatt Place" and others. Through this corporate adaptation of the concept the term "boutique" also changed and more recently hoteliers prefer to use the term "lifestyle hotels" to get away from the above mentioned quirky image.
Boutique hotels are sometimes furnished in a themed, stylish and/or aspirational manner. Although usually considerably smaller than a mainstream hotel (ranging from 3 to 100 guest rooms) boutique hotels are generally fitted with telephone and [wi-fi] [Internet] connections, [honesty bar]s and often cable/pay TV. Guest services are attended to by 24 hour hotel staff. Many of the boutique hotels have on site dining facilities, and the majority offer attractive bars as well as lounges which may also be open to the general public.
Of the total travel market a small percentage are discerning travelers, who place a high importance on privacy, luxury and service delivery. This market is typically price insensitive (made up of both high end leisure and corporate travelers), non-seasonal, high-yielding and repeat, and therefore one which boutique hotel and other high-end operators target as their primary source of income.
Motels
There is no hard and fast rule differentiating [motel]s from other hotels, although the word motel suggests that it is aimed at motorists. This may simply mean that it is a hotel with good access to the road network (on a motorway or ring road) so that a long car journey need not be interrupted for long by town-centre traffic. In other cases the designation is simply an attempt to make the most of a poor location inconvenient for town-centre services and attractions. Classically, though, a motel is a hotel which is made convenient for people who, for whatever personal reason, wish to be able to have quick access from the outside world (especially from their parked car) to the hotel room - without passing the scrutiny of a receptionist or fellow guests. This is usually arranged by having rooms (sometimes in individual chalets or even trailers) arranged around the car park with room doors opening directly to the outside rather than to an internal corridor.
Historic hotels
and a statue of Tsar [Nicholas I of Russia] in front, in [Saint Petersburg]Some hotels have gained their renown through tradition, by hosting significant events or persons, such as Schloss [Cecilienhof] in [Potsdam], [Germany], which derives its fame from the so-called [Potsdam Conference] of the [World War II] allies [Winston Churchill], [Harry Truman] and [Joseph Stalin] in 1945. Other establishments have given name to a particular meal or beverage, as is the case with the [Waldorf Astoria] in [New York City], [USA], known for its [Waldorf Salad] or the [Raffles Hotel] in [Singapore], where the drink [Singapore Sling] was invented. Another example is the [Hotel Sacher] in [Vienna] Austria, home of the [Sachertorte] or even the Hotel de Paris where the crèpe Suzette was invented.
in [Paris]There are also hotels which became much more popular through films like the [Grand Hotel Europe] in [Saint Petersburg], [Russia] when [James Bond] stayed there in the [Blockbuster (entertainment)] [Goldeneye]. Cannes hotels such as the [Carlton] or the [Martinez] become the center of the world during Cannes Film Festival (France).
A number of hotels have entered the public consciousness through popular culture, such as the [Ritz Hotel] in [London], [United Kingdom] ('Putting on The Ritz'), the [Algonquin Hotel] in New York City with its famed [Algonquin Round Table] and [Hotel Chelsea], also in New York City, subject of a number of songs and also the scene of the stabbing of [Nancy Spungen] (allegedly by her boyfriend [Sid Vicious]). Hotels that enter folklore like these two are also often frequented by celebrities, as is the case both with the Ritz and the Chelsea.

Hotel Questions and AnswersHow does the hotel grading system work?Q) what is the quality criteria for a hotel to determine what "star" grade it is?
e.g. the different between a * hotel, ** hotel, *** hotel ****hotel and ***** hotel......and how come some hotels are diamonds?
please answer!
thanks!
we are booking a hotel in france at the moment and they are all really low star rating but really expensive!
A) The star grading is based on what the company that gives that star rating says a hotel needs to get that level. Generally, the more amenities a hotel offers the more stars. Mobil Guide rates hotels in the US but so do other companies.
The diamonds are AAA's version of the stars. Their diamonds have a copywrite. So now one else can say diamonds. Stars are generic and any company can rate hotels using stars.
Generally, one star is for budget travellers. Two stars have better accomodations. Three stars would be okay with most people. Four stars would be upscale. Five stars would be considered exquisite and would also require excellent service by hotel staff.Hotels Near Norbreck Castle Hotel, Blackpool, England.?Q) Are there any hotels that are within close proximity to Norbreck Castle Hotel, Blackpool, England?

Want to stay in a nice hotel overnight as it is also our wedding anniversary! Looking to spend no more than £150. Need to be near a tube station to get to Wembley. A) The Hilton London Green Park ( http://www.resideo.com/gb/london/10361467.hotel ) does offer parking, although space is limited and there's a fee. I have found some well priced villas in the area which would probably end up being just as cheap as hotels and I could have my own pool which is an added bonus!
The main factor though is the location. I would like to have a villa but some aren't in a very central location unlike the hotels. The closest villas I can see are in the Indian Wells, Indian Ridge Oaks, Rolling Hills, Formosa Gardens and the Windsor Hills resorts. Would this be a good location for all of the parks compared to hotels in I-Drive and Lake Beuna Vista?
A) Ive just booked to go to Florida in April, there will be 6 of us and we are staying in Kissimmee in Orlando in a 4 bedroom villa. There were loads available in Kissimmee which is dead close to all the attractions. I would say a villa is definately best, much more private and personal and like you said your own pool.
Try this website they seem to have loads.

Check www.tripadvisor.co.uk for info on this hotel.Hostelworld.com - is the hotel supposed to charge you even before you arrive?Q) I booked a hotel in paris for one weekend in April via Hostelworld.com. As part of the website's policy they took 10% as a deposit (+ a small fee) from my credit card, which was 28.70 euro. They say the remainder is settled on arrival at the hotel. However, four days later, there is an entry on my credit card statement:
HOTEL BENBOUZID 8325970 80.10EMU EURO at 1.46087908 75PARIS.
For some unknown reason, someone in Paris has taken 80.10 euros out of my account. And I'm assuming it's the hotel, because I haven't done any other transactions with anyone located in Paris.
Has anyone had this problem before or used hostelworld.com to book accomodation? What happens when I turn up at the hotel and they try to charge me the full amount because I have no receipt for this amount that has been taken from me. I've contacted hostelworld.com but I'm still waiting for a reply. Anyone got any advice? Thanks for you help!
Hi everyone, thanks for quick responses. The full cost for the hotel is about 270EUR, but this unknown transaction is only 80EUR (less than one nights stay).
The deposit was taken by "hostelworld.com" as expected, but it was just a little worrying to see something on my credit card statement which I wasn't expecting. Especially since the conditions displayed during booking said "The balance of EUR240.30 is payable when you arrive at the property".
I will try to contact the hotel directly as well as wait for hostelworld.com's reply.
(It is actually a 2* hotel I booked, despite it being "hostelworld.com".)
A) I can't tell you if they are "supposed to" do this but I can tell you that others do. On the trips I've taken where I booked weeks or months ahead of time, hotels have charged my credit card when I booked it, not when I arrived. They would refund the difference between the cost of the room and any non-refundable deposit should you cancel before the scheduled arrival.
The infinite hotel.?Q) Suppose there is a hotel A with infinitely many rooms numbere from 1,2,3,... each room has only one occupant. Suppose across the street there is another infinite hotel B. Both hotels are full i.e. each room is occuppied. If hotel B burns down and every occupant survives, is there a way for hotel A to accomodate the hotel B guests.
Suppose there is a hotel C and D. Both are infinite hotels that are next to hotel A. Hotel C and D are both full. Like hotel B, hotel C and D both burn down is there a way for hotel A to accomodate all the guests from hotel B, C, and D?
A) Yes, it's easy, assign the rooms anew as follows:
if a guest has been staying in room n in hotel A, assign him to room 4n (4 times n).
if a guest has been staying in room n in hotel B, assign him to room 4n+1
if a guest has been staying in room n in hotel C, assign him to room 4n+2
if a guest has been staying in room n in hotel D, assign him to room 4n+3HOTEL SOAPS!!!...(true story)?Q) (some real letters from an annoyed man staying at a hotel)
Dear Maid,
Please do not leave any more of those little bars of soap
in my bathroom since I have brought my own bath-sized Dial.
Please remove the six unopened little bars from the shelf
under the medicine chest and another three in the shower
soap dish. They are in my way.
Thank you,
S. Berman
-----------------------------------------------------------
Dear Room 635,
I am not your regular maid. She will be back tomorrow,
Thursday, from her day off. I took the 3 hotel soaps out of
the shower soap dish as you requested. The 6 bars on your
shelf I took out of your way and put on top of your Kleenex
dispenser in case you should change your mind. This leaves
only the 3 bars I left today which my instructions from the
management is to leave 3 soaps daily. I hope this is
satisfactory.
Kathy, Relief Maid
-----------------------------------------------------------
Dear Maid-
I hope you are my regular maid. Apparently Kathy did not
tell you about my note to her concerning the little bars of
soap. When I got back to my room this evening I found you
had added 3 little Camays to the shelf under my medicine
cabinet. I am going to be here in the hotel for two weeks
and have brought my own bath-size Dial so I won't need
those 6 little Camays which are on the shelf. They are in
my way when shaving, brushing teeth, etc. Please remove
them.
S. Berman
----------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mr. Berman,
My day off was last Wed. so the relief maid left 3 hotel
soaps which we are instructed by the management. I took the
6 soaps which were in your way on the shelf and put them in
the soap dish where your Dial was. I put the Dial in the
medicine cabinet for your convenience. I didn't remove the
3 complimentary soaps which are always placed inside the
medicine cabinet for all new check-ins and which you did
not object to when you checked in last Monday. Please let
me know if I can of further assistance.
Your regular maid,
Dotty
--------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mr. Berman,
The assistant manager, Mr. Kensedder, informed me this A.M.
that you called him last evening and said you were unhappy
with your maid service. I have assigned a new girl to your
room. I hope you will accept my apologies for any past
inconvenience. If you have any future complaints please
contact me so I can give it my personal attention. Call
extension 1108 between 8AM and 5PM. Thank you.
Elaine Carmen
Housekeeper
-----------------------------------------------------------
Dear Miss Carmen,
It is impossible to contact you by phone since I leave the
hotel for business at 745 AM and don't get back before 530
or 6PM. That's the reason I called Mr. Kensedder last night.
You were already off duty. I only asked Mr. Kensedder if he
could do anything about those little bars of soap. The new
maid you assigned me must have thought I was a new check-in
today, since she left another 3 bars of hotel soap in my
medicine cabinet along with her regular delivery of 3 bars on
the bath-room shelf. In just 5 days here I have accumulated 24
little bars of soap. Why are you doing this to me?
S. Berman
----------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mr. Berman,
Your maid, Kathy, has been instructed to stop delivering
soap to your room and remove the extra soaps. If I can be
of further assistance, please call extension 1108 between
8AM and 5PM.
Thank you,
Elaine Carmen,
Housekeeper
----------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mr. Kensedder,
My bath-size Dial is missing. Every bar of soap was taken
from my room including my own bath-size Dial. I came in
late last night and had to call the bellhop to bring me 4
little Cashmere Bouquets.
S. Berman
----------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mr. Berman,
I have informed our housekeeper, Elaine Carmen, of your
soap problem. I cannot understand why there was no soap in
your room since our maids are instructed to leave 3 bars of
soap each time they service a room. The situation will be
rectified immediately. Please accept my apologies for the
inconvenience.
Martin L. Kensedder
Assistant Manager
----------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mrs. Carmen,
Who the heck left 54 little bars of Camay in my room? I
came in last night and found 54 little bars of soap. I
don't want 54 little bars of Camay. I want my one damn bar
of bath-size Dial. Do you realize I have 54 bars of soap in
here? All I want is my bath size Dial. Please give me back
my bath-size Dial.
S. Berman
----------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mr. Berman,
You complained of too much soap in your room so I had them
removed. Then you complained to Mr. Kensedder that all your
soap was missing so I personally returned them. The 24
Camays which had been taken and the 3 Camays you are
supposed to receive daily (sic). I don't know anything
about the 4 Cashmere Bouquets. Obviously your maid, Kathy,
did not know I had returned your soaps so she also brought
24 Camays plus the 3 daily Camays. I don't know where you
got the idea this hotel issues bath-size Dial. I was able
to locate some bath-size Ivory which I left in your room.

--------------------------------------------------------
Dear Mrs. Carmen,
Just a short note to bring you up-to-date on my latest soap
inventory.
As of today I possess:
On shelf under medicine cabinet - 18 Camay in 4 stacks of 4
and 1 stack of 2.
On Kleenex dispenser - 11 Camay in 2 stacks of 4 and 1
stack of 3.
On bedroom dresser - 1 stack of 3 Cashmere Bouquet, 1 stack
of 4 hotel-size Ivory, and 8 Camay in 2 stacks of 4.
Inside medicine cabinet - 14 Camay in 3 stacks of 4 and 1
stack of 2.
In shower soap dish - 6 Camay, very moist.
On northeast corner of tub - 1 Cashmere Bouquet, slightly
used.
On northwest corner of tub - 6 Camays in 2 stacks of 3.
Please ask Kathy when she services my room to make sure the
stacks are neatly piled and dusted. Also, please advise her
that stacks of more than 4 have a tendency to tip. May I
suggest that my bedroom windowsill is not in use and will
make an excellent spot for future soap deliveries.
One more item, I have purchased another bar of bath-sized Dial
which I am keeping in the hotel vault in order to avoid
further misunderstandings.

HAHAHAHA! That was great! Are those really real? lol :DHotel charged me 3 times for same transaction?Q) Please help, we stayed at a hotel in another state during our drive home and they charged out bank debit card three times for one night. All are in the same amounts and its just 3 seperate transactions by them. I called the hotel they tell me its the banks fault and i called the bank and went there also and they say its the hotels fault. So now my account is in negative and charged to many times by hotel. The hotel called my bank a liar and even when we sent proof of the 3 times they paid for hotel the hotel still says they only show one time on there end.
So now what do i do to make sure we get the NSF charges back and all my money for them charging to much?? I thought small claims court. The hotel is private owned also not franchised.. That sucks ever worse..
Any help on what i can do.. Thanks
A) I agree. Small claims court. I would also go after court fees., bank fees, etc. Just keep track of all the people you spoke with, names and numbers, from the hotel.
That happened to me (they only double charged though) and I was able to get the hotel to reverse 1 charge. If possible, I would get a credit card and use it rather than debit, especially on trips. Just for this reason.
Good luck!Best hotel pick in Florence?Q) I've narrowed a list of mid-priced hotels in Florence. Need your help deciding (based on quality of hotel and location):
- Santa Maria Novella
- Hotel Berchielli
- Hotel Montebello Splendid
- Hotel Abergotto
- Hotel Cavour
- Grand Hotel Villa Medici
Or are there any other 4 or 5 star hotels that you like?
Please only answer if you've been to Florence or have personal knowledge of Florence hotels. I've already searched through reviews on Y! Travel, Trip Advisor, and Venere. Thanks.
Thanks for your feedback so far. By location I'm looking for something in the middle of things (don't mind the noise). Maybe close to the Duomo or the Arno River.
The Davanzati is sold out. Looks like there are openings at the Hotel Lungarno (no Arno view), The Gallery Art, and the Continentale but those are looking a little pricey. The Savoy looks amazing but it's also a little pricey for the 270sq ft room :(.
A) There are tons of great hotels in Florence -- all which come at a price, unfortunately. You say hotel quality and location are most important to you...but those things can be relative as well. For example, do you want to wake up right in the middle of town and be steps away from all the sites (wonderfully convenient, but could mean it'll be a little noisy) or would you like to be in the surrounding hills in a villa turned hotel set in a lovely garden with stunning views (gorgeous, but you'll spend some time getting around every day).
Here is a short list of what I would say are some of my favorite hotels in Florence that you won't find on every website or list out there (I'll confess that I tend to like smaller properties that are a little bit more personal; but not always)
-Hotel Benivieni (www.benivieni.it)
-Palazzo Magnani Feroni (www.palazzomagnaniferoni.com)
-Hotel Davanzati (www.hoteldavanzati.it)
-Lungarno Hotels (www.lungarnohotels.com)
-Hotel Villa Betania
-Hotel La Vedetta
Among those that you list, I'd say the one I know and like is Hotel Albergotto. Small rooms but great location. Another great 5-star is the Hotel Savoy -- location can't be beat as far as convenience.
Let me know if you'd like more info (if I know better exactly what you are looking for I can make a better recommendation) and if there is anyway I can help you in getting a good price on a room.hotel business?Q) i am thinking of building a hotel is the Virginia beach area. it would be small, about 30-50 rooms (compared to the larger hotels) , is this a good business idea. do u think it would be successful. what is the current trend among hotels and tourist. do u think people would mind going to a smaller hotel in a tourist area with much larger hotels ( most likely i will be cheaper). how much do regular hotels in high tourist ares charge? how is the business out side of the summer when tourism is less. how much could i make per month/ per year with this idea? what would the cost of building this be? would it be a good idea to add on a small restaurant/bar to the hotel?

A) Do your own homeworkHotel recommendation for central Paris?Q) In late May, I will be travelling to Paris with two people. We would like a nice hotel (no less than 4 stars) in central Paris.
Obviously, prices are astronomically high, made even worse by the very low value of the dollar. I will be paying for two of the three rooms, so I don't want anything higher than $150 a night per room. What hotels can you recommend?
The problem with hotel websites is that the fotos are often very deceptive. I once booked a hotel whose fotos made it look like an upscale boutique hotel, when in fact the rooms were miniscule, and the beds seemed like they came from IKEA.
The most important consideration is a nice, big, comfortable bed. It would be nice if the hotel had a pool or fitness center, but in central Paris I doubt I would find that.
A) In central Paris, obviously you'll never find a 4 stars hotel less $ 150/room/night. And with pool or fitness center???? Don't even dream about it. But, if you want just a "nice", central hotel, about $ 150/room/ night, you can try Ascot Opera hotel-rue Monsigny no.2. It's very well located, so you can visit the "must see" places, only by walking. Enjoy your trip !Aruba Hotel Dilemma?Q) Hello my husband and I are planning a trip to Aruba this August. We picked it because it is outside the hurricane belt in the ABC islands. I do not know much about Aruba but have booked two hotels and am wondering which is the best fit for us. We like upscale and mellow hotels. We are extensive travelers who have stayed at some of the finest hotels, but we also love hotels with local charm. We love Small Inns and B&B's as well at the Ritz. The first hotel I booked is the Westin Aruba. We are platinum members of Starwood hotels, so we often get upgraded and treated well at their properties. But I am worried this place is too spring break an won’t have the peace and quiet we are looking for. But it does look nice. I also booked the Golden Tulip Resort Bucuti -Tara Suites & Spa. This is a smaller European style boutique hotel with great reviews on trip advisor. The westin is on Palm beach and the Bucuti is on Eagle beach. Any advice on which to pick would be great. Thanks!
A) Have you tried the Divi resorts, we love them.
=) Good luckillegal hotel new york should i report ???Q) I have stayed in a hotel on the upper west side of manhattan, thinking it was a tourist hotel. It turns out it is supposed to be a residence hotel or an S.R.O. (single room occupancy) hotel where new yorkers are supposed to be living. anyway i met a few of the permenant tenants and they are very nice, but are concerned that their home is being ILLEGALLY converted into a tourist hotel. How do I go about making a formal complaint to the new york city department of buildings???? I am really concerned for these people. the hotel is the Hotel Riverside Studios, at 342 west 71st street in manhattan (new york city). Please advise especially new yorkers.
not being a busy-body. As permenant tenents move out, tourists move in. this reduces the already dwindling supply of affordable housing, the owners are trying to force the tenants out, they will end up on the streets with no where else to go, before you judge my question think about the face that in a few years or even months you may be in desperate need of affordable housing, and end up on the streets because no one has helped you out....!!!!!!!!!!!!!!!1
A) goto directy to the top. see belowCan anyone suggest a hotel that allows pets in Atlanta?Q) I'm traveling to Atlanta next month & I have to bring my cat. I cant leave him home by himself the whole time I'm in Atlanta. I'm on Expedia looking at hotel and flight reservations, I see the hotels that allow pets but these hotels have "stipulations" that require you not leave your pet "unattended" the whole time you are at the hotel, which is absolutely stupid, because that's saying that I have to stay in my hotel room the whole time I'm in Atlanta or I have to take my cat out with me whenever I leave my hotel room to go out. This, along with an extra charge to bring the pet in the hotel room, a deposit that "you get back after the room is inspected", meaning if there is ANYTHING that even looks like damage to the hotel room by the pet, you will be charged for it.
This is making it difficult for me to book a hotel room. Can anyone suggest a nice hotel that allows pets without all of this chaos? Thanks.
A) You can do a search for pet-friendly hotels in Atlanta:
http://www.resideo.com/?p=atlanta%20pet%20friendly
That should give you a listing of pet-friendly places -- you can then read up on each hotel & quote rates and book online.
Good luck!
